Procedure for preparing a university dissertation
1. Goal

1.1        Adjusting the title and plan of the thesis (thesis) for postgraduate students.

1.2        Appointing a main supervisor and a co-supervisor, if any, for the postgraduate student and discussing it.

1.3        Completing university theses with the required time and quality.

2. Scope

2.1        The provisions of this procedure are applied to graduate students who are registered for the thesis track (thesis) in accordance with the instructions of the Deanship of Graduate Studies.

3. Definitions

3.1        The external examiner: He is a member of an academic body from outside the university who participates in the discussion of the thesis (thesis) under certain conditions.

3.2        The internal examiner: He is a member of the academic body from within the university who participates in the discussion of the thesis (thesis) under certain conditions.

4. Responsibilities

4.1        Registrar of the College of Graduate Studies: Registering graduate students at the university within the thesis program (thesis) or comprehensive examination in accordance with the instructions of the Deanship of Graduate Studies.

4.2        Graduate Studies Program Coordinator: Determining the title of the thesis (thesis) for the graduate student and the idea of the study in agreement with the student, and appointing a main supervisor.

4.3        Main supervisor: Supervising the preparation of the study plan and the student while preparing the thesis (thesis) and filling out the forms required of him according to the instructions of the Deanship of Studies ; Or rejection of the thesis.

4.7        Dean of the Deanship of Graduate Studies: Approval of all requirements necessary to complete the thesis track for graduate students.

 

5. Operations

5.1        After completing 12 credit hours for master’s students and 18 credit hours for doctoral students, with a cumulative GPA of no less than 75%, a graduate student can register for the thesis course via the portal, choosing the idea for the thesis and the name of the proposed supervisor according to the Form for appointing a supervisor and choosing the title of the thesis.

5.2        The competent academic program coordinator decides the title of the thesis (thesis) to be researched and the name of the proposed supervisor, and sends the request. The Head of the Department of Human Sciences/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate Studies has thesupervisor  begin working with the student via official correspondence.

5.4        The supervisor informs the Head of the Department of Humanities/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate Studies of the student's readiness to discuss his proposal and suggests the names of the proposed discussion committee, according to the form of Request to Discuss the Research Proposal.

5.5        The Head of the Department of Humanities/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate Studies nbsp;      Head of the Department of Humanities/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate Studies and Dean of Graduate Studies.

5.10    The Dean of Graduate Studies sends the discussion committee’s decision to the Graduate Studies Council for approval.

5.11    The Dean of Graduate Studies sends the Graduate Studies Council’s decision after its approval to the Admissions and Registration Unit to officially register the student in the thesis track.

5.12   The main supervisor and co-supervisor, if any, provide the Deanship of Graduate Studies with a report trong>

5.13    In the event that the need arises to change the title of the thesis (thesis), the main supervisor submits an official letter justifying it to the Council of Graduate Studies to take the appropriate decision. Accordingly, the Dean of Graduate Studies informs the main supervisor of the decision while keeping the old title in the previous steps if the request is approved.

5.14   After completing writing the thesis (thesis), the supervisor confirms the readiness of the thesis (thesis) for discussion via the acknowledgment form Required for this by the Council of Graduate Studies, via theInternal and External Examiner Appointment Form

5.15    The Deanship of Graduate Studies sends official letters to the accredited internal and external examiners informing them that they have been selected as members of the discussion committee, and provides them with a copy of the dissertation (thesis) attached to the Internal and External Examiner Report Form.

5.16   The internal examiner submits rong>

5.16.1  If the report of the internal and external examiner recommends approval and that the thesis is fit for discussion:

5.16.1.1 The main supervisor fills out the form for setting a date to defend a university thesis and takes approvals from the Deanship of Graduate Studies.

5.16.1.2 The thesis (thesis) is discussed on the specified date, and the discussion committee issues its approval decision via the thesis defense committee decision form. For minor modifications, the student must make minor amendments within a period of not less than two weeks and not more than a month from the date of the discussion.

 

-          If the decision comes with fundamental amendments, then the student must amend his dissertation within a period ranging between 4-6 months from the date of the discussion and present it to a specialized committee.

-          If the decision is that the student fails, it will be transferred to a comprehensive examination with the addition of courses determined by the College of Graduate Studies during a semester. In the event of conflicting recommendations:

-          The College of Graduate Studies invites the relevant academic program committee to consider the student’s situation  using the last chanceform. It recommends either rejection and the student is declared to have failed and transferred to a comprehensive examinationwith the addition of courses determined by the College of Graduate Studies during a compulsory semester, or a new evaluator is appointed to consider the thesis and if his recommendations are for acceptance, a date is set for discussion as stated in the clause. � The discussion committee signs the A form for approving amendments to the university thesis and the committee issues a decision to that effect, while keeping the old address in the previous steps if the address is modified.

5.19    The main supervisor fills out the University thesis (thesis) submission form  according to the standards determined by the College of Graduate Studies.

5.20    The student submits six paper copies of the thesis (thesis) and two electronic copies A student to complete his graduation requirements from the Admissions and Registration Unit and receive his certificate.

6. KPIs

6.1        The number of students transferred from the thesis track to comprehensive due to failing the thesis = zero.

6.2        The number of comprehensive theses with fundamental modifications = zero.

6.3        Choosing the appropriate supervisor.
