Procedure for preparing a university dissertation
1. Goal
1.1        Setting the title and plan of the thesis (thesis) for graduate students. 1.2        Appointing a main supervisor and a co-supervisor, if any, for the graduate student and discussing it. 1.3        Completing university theses with the required time and quality.
2. Scope
2.1        The provisions of this procedure are applied to postgraduate students registered for the thesis track (thesis) in accordance with the instructions of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies.
3. Definitions
3.1        The external examiner: is a member from outside the university who participates in the discussion of a thesis (thesis) in the field of specialization and meets the conditions of a teaching and supervision member. 3.2        The internal examiner: is a member of an academic body from within the university who participates in the discussion of the thesis (thesis) under certain conditions.
4. Responsibilities
4.1        Registrar of the College of Graduate Studies: Registering graduate students at the university within the thesis program (thesis) or comprehensive examination in accordance with the instructions of the Deanship of Graduate Studies. RK: Assist in supervising the student during the preparation of the thesis. 4.5        Head of the Department of Humanities/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate Studies: Approval of the request to discuss the research proposal and approval of a discussion committee, recommending the appointment of the internal and external examiner, the readiness of the thesis for discussion and the date of its discussion, and approving amendments to the university thesis. 4.6        Graduate Council: Approving the university thesis plan for graduate students, approving the readiness of the thesis for discussion, and issuing the appropriate decision in the event of a conflict of opinions or 4.7        Dean of the Deanship of Graduate Studies: Approval of all requirements necessary to complete the dissertation course for graduate students.

 

5. Operations
5.1        After completing 12 credit hours for master’s students and 18 credit hours for doctoral students, with a cumulative GPA of no less than 75%, a graduate student can register for the thesis track (thesis) via the portal, choosing the idea for the thesis and the name of the proposed supervisor according to the Form for appointing a supervisor and choosing the title of the thesis (thesis).5.2        The relevant academic program coordinator decides the title of the thesis (thesis) to be researched and the name of the proposed supervisor, and sends the request to the head of the Humanities Department. � Humanities/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate StudiesThe supervisor  begins work with the student via official correspondence.5.4        The supervisor informs the head of the Department of Humanities/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate Studies of the student's readiness to discuss his proposal and suggests the names of the proposed discussion committee, according to the formRequest to discuss the research proposal.5.5        The head of the Department of Human Sciences/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate Studies approves the committeewith the possibility of The discussion committee meeting was held in the specified period.5.7        The supervisor prepares the minutes of the discussion, noting the minute number and the required amendments, and all members of the committee sign it, informing the head of the Department of Humanities/Natural Sciences - College of Graduate Studies.5.8        The student makes the required amendments approved in the discussion session, under the supervision of the supervisor.5.9        After amending the research proposal, the supervisor fills out theDiscussion Committee Decision Formand it is duly signed by the members of the discussion committee and the head of the Science Department. Natural - College of Graduate Studies and the Dean of Graduate Studies. 5.10    The Dean of Graduate Studies sends the decision of the discussion committee to the Graduate Studies Council for approval. 5.11    The Dean of Graduate Studies sends the decision of the Graduate Studies Council after its approval to the Admissions and Registration Unit to officially register the student in the thesis track.5.12   The main supervisor and co-supervisor, if any, provide the Deanship of Graduate Studies with a follow-up report on the student on a regular basis during the period of preparation of the thesis (thesis) using theThesis Supervision Follow-up Form Title of the thesis (thesis), the main supervisor submits an official letter justifying it to the Council of Graduate Studies to take the appropriate decision. Accordingly, the Dean of Graduate Studies informs the main supervisor of the decision while keeping the old address in the previous steps if the request is approved.5.14  After completing writing the thesis (thesis), the supervisor confirms the readiness of the thesis (thesis) for discussion via the Declaration Form of Readiness of the Thesis (thesis) for discussion and the internal and external examiner’s suggestion to obtain Form for appointing the internal and external examiner.5.15    The Deanship of Graduate Studies sends official letters to the accredited internal and external examiners informing them that they have been selected as members of the discussion committee, and providing them with a copy of the thesis (thesis) attached to the internal and external examiner report form.5.16   The internal and external examiners submit a report on the thesis (thesis) and make a recommendation on its suitability for discussion via Approval and that the thesis is valid for discussion: 5.16.1.1 The main supervisor fills out the form to schedule a university thesis defense and obtains approvals from the Deanship of Graduate Studies. 5.16.1.2 The thesis (thesis) is discussed on the date specified for it, and the discussion committee issues its approval decision via a university thesis (thesis) discussion committee decision form as follows: -          If the decision is successful, the student must submit the thesis (thesis) within a period of no less than two weeks from the date of the discussion -          If And not more than a month from the date of the discussion.

 

-          If the decision is with fundamental amendments, the student must amend his thesis within a period ranging between 4-6 months from the date of the discussion and present it to a specialized committee. -          If the decision is that the student fails, then he will be transferred to a comprehensive examination with the addition of courses determined by the College of Graduate Studies during a mandatory semester.

 

5.16.2 If the internal and external examiner’s report recommends disapproval and the thesis is not subject to discussion. By inviting the relevant academic program committee to consider the student’s situation using the last chance form, it recommends either rejecting it and declaring the student’s failure and transferring him to a comprehensive examination with the addition of courses determined by the College of Graduate Studies during a mandatory semester, or appointing a new evaluator to consider the thesis, and if his recommendations are for acceptance, a date is set for discussion as stated in clause 5.10.1.

5.17    The student makes the required amendments according to the time specified for them as in clause 5.10.1. The committee issues a decision to that effect, while keeping the old address in the previous steps if the address is modified. 5.19    The main supervisor fills out a university thesis (thesis) submission form  according to the standards determined by the College of Graduate Studies. 5.20    The student delivers six paper copies of the thesis (thesis) and two electronic copies to the Deanship of Graduate Studies and delivers a paper copy to the university library using the Master’s Thesis submission form to the library
6. KPIs
6.1        Number of students transferred from the thesis track to comprehensive due to failure in the thesis = zero. 6.2        Number of comprehensive theses with fundamental modifications = zero. 6.3        Choosing the appropriate supervisor.
