Water-Smart Landscaping

Water-Smart Landscaping [6.3.5]

Implementation of landscaping techniques using drought-resistant plants, greywater irrigation, and moisture-sensor systems.

Water-Smart Landscaping at PTUK promotes the use of native plants, drought-tolerant species, and efficient irrigation systems to reduce water consumption across campus grounds. These efforts align with SDG6 by minimizing water demand and conserving freshwater resources. Students and staff participate in designing, installing, and maintaining water-smart gardens and green spaces. Outputs include reduced irrigation water use, demonstration projects, research reports, and community education on sustainable landscaping. Additional activities include competitions for students to propose innovative water-efficient landscaping designs and collaboration with local municipalities to promote green infrastructure.
