Hazardous Waste Disposal Policy [12.2.3]
Policy and procedures for safe disposal of hazardous materials and chemicals.
Managing hazardous waste safely is critical for campus health, environmental protection, and legal compliance. PTUK has detailed Hazardous Waste Management Policy and Hazardous Waste Disposal Management Procedure documents that lay out classification, handling, storage, collection, transport and disposal requirements for chemical, biological, electronic and other hazardous streams. The policy defines secure storage areas, labelling, periodic inventories, staff training requirements, and KPIs to track compliance. Faculties (labs and clinics), Facilities Management, and the Sustainability Office jointly implement the procedure, and the policy requires coordination with licensed hazardous-waste service providers when off-campus disposal is necessary. Education and monitoring (audits and inventories) are integral: students and lab staff must follow handling and segregation rules and attend training. Proper hazardous waste management reduces risks of pollution and supports SDG12 by ensuring environmentally safe disposal and minimizing harm along the product/service lifecycle. PTUK’s published policy and management procedure provide specific, auditable steps for implementation.
