Plastic Use Minimization Policy [12.2.5]
Policy for reducing and phasing out single-use plastic products.
Minimizing plastic use is a practical, visible step toward responsible consumption. PTUK’s sustainability reporting and operational guidelines include actions to reduce single-use plastics (banning or limiting disposable plastic cutlery/cups, promoting refillable water stations, and encouraging alternatives with lower lifecycle impacts). Policies are reinforced through procurement criteria (prefer low-packaging suppliers), awareness campaigns (to change user behaviour), and pilot trials (e.g., reusable takeaway containers). Student groups and the Sustainability Office run campaigns and competitions to reduce plastic footprint. These measures contribute to SDG12 by cutting plastic waste generation, increasing reuse, and creating demand signals that encourage suppliers to reduce packaging. PTUK’s sustainability reporting captures trends and progress in plastic reduction.
