Ethical Sourcing Policy

Ethical Sourcing Policy [12.2.1]

Policy on ethical sourcing of food, materials, and supplies across university operations.

An Ethical Sourcing Policy ensures that procurement decisions reflect social, environmental and governance standards (labor practices, sustainability of raw materials, reduced environmental impacts). At PTUK this axis is implemented through formal policy documents and supplier assessment procedures that integrate sustainability criteria into purchasing, tendering and contracts. The policy aims to: (1) favor suppliers who demonstrate environmental responsibility (e.g., reduced packaging, recycled content), (2) ensure transparency and compliance throughout supply chains, and (3) protect the university from reputational and environmental risks. The Sustainability Office and Procurement/Finance collaborate to embed ethical sourcing into procurement workflows, including tender documents, supplier pre-qualification, and contract clauses. Educational activities (training procurement staff and contractors) complement the policy to raise awareness about sustainable purchasing decisions. Ethical sourcing supports SDG12 by shifting demand towards sustainable goods, reducing environmental impacts across production chains, and encouraging suppliers to adopt greener practices. PTUK’s formal Ethical Sourcing Policy and Supplier Ethical Sourcing Assessment Procedure set the practical and auditable steps for implementation.
