NGO SDG Partnerships [17.2.5]

Collaboration with NGOs to address and advance specific Sustainable Development Goals.

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are essential partners in advancing sustainable development, and PTUK maintains strong collaborative relationships with both local and international NGOs. These partnerships support research, community development, environmental protection, youth empowerment, sustainable agriculture, and public education campaigns. Through joint initiatives, PTUK connects academic expertise with community needs, ensuring that research and teaching are grounded in real-world challenges and contribute to meaningful societal outcomes.

NGO collaborations provide PTUK students and faculty with opportunities to participate in field projects, training programs, capacity-building workshops, and policy dialogue activities. These engagements strengthen experiential learning, civic engagement, and professional development while expanding the university’s role in local and national development. Many joint initiatives focus on supporting marginalized communities, advancing sustainable water and land management, scaling renewable energy solutions, and promoting public environmental awareness.

This focus area directly advances SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, especially in areas related to inclusive collaboration, shared resource mobilization, and coordinated community action. Working with NGOs allows PTUK to extend its reach beyond the university campus, engage rural and underserved communities, and contribute to national resilience through evidence-based practices. These partnerships reflect PTUK’s commitment to serving as a development-oriented institution that values collaboration, social responsibility, and sustainable progress.

Collaboration with Environmental NGOs on Water Projects

PTUK collaborates with environmental NGOs to design and implement water‑security and rainwater harvesting projects in surrounding communities. Students and faculty conduct field training with NGO staff, community members participate in implementing rainwater systems, and monitoring data is shared between the university and NGOs. This initiative advances SDG 17 by integrating academic research with civil‑society action, enhancing shared capacity and mobilising complementary resources for sustainable water management.

Training Workshops for NGO Staff on SDG Implementation

PTUK hosts targeted workshops for NGO staff on monitoring, evaluation and sustainability‑themed project design. The workshops include case studies, best practices, and joint sessions with university researchers. By building NGO capacity and aligning NGO programmes with research evidence and institutional support, this activity strengthens multi‑stakeholder networks and advances SDG 17 by fostering institutional learning and partnership mechanisms.

Joint Community Outreach Projects with NGOs

University students and NGO practitioners co‑lead outreach programmes in local villages on topics such as energy‑efficient cooking, water conservation and sustainable agriculture. The joint design of these programmes ensures that academic knowledge is converted into practical action and community benefits. This supports SDG 17 by enabling academia and NGOs to share roles, resources and responsibilities, thereby broadening the participation base and strengthening implementation of the Goals.

Co‑Published Case Studies with NGO Partners

PTUK faculty and NGO practitioners jointly author open‑access case studies documenting successes, challenges and lessons learned from sustainability interventions. These publications extend institutional learning beyond campus, enabling other organisations to replicate proven models. The activity contributes to SDG 17 by disseminating knowledge, strengthening transparency and increasing the reach of effective partnerships globally.
