Participants in Special Needs International Workshop Conclude Practical Recommendations and Solutions

The Participants in the international workshop “Giving Back the Rights for the People with Special Needs” laid out the recommendations in the final session to start implementing the practical researches and conducting comprehensive studies and statistics to identify the types of disabilities in Palestine using international assessment tools.
The participants recommended to establish specialized centers for the people with special needs, launch a new BA program in the field of special needs technology in purpose of qualifying a staff technically to provide engineered solutions that serve the disabled community and demand the institutions and universities to apply the governmental adaptive system according to the current law 4/1999.
The participants also called for the necessity of employment of the people with special needs to empower them throughout providing trained advisors to offer technical, administrative and financial consultancy, provide multiple training academic programs for the people with special needs, apply the European experience regarding the mechanisms of dealing with the special needs’ community and set up a committee to follow up the laid out recommendations in the official institutions.
The workshop revolved in the second day themes concerning the challenges of the children with special needs enrollment in the public schools, chaired by the Head of the Educational Advisory Department in Tulkarem Directorate of Education, Ibraheem Baker, case studies from European colleges and schools, presented by the Expert in the Educational Affairs, Ms. Pirjo Koivula, a success story told by the lecturer at Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, Dr. Husam Qasem and a panel discussion on the rights of the individuals with special needs to adopt practical solutions.
The audience discussed means of development regarding the people with special needs based on scientific research; a discussion was managed by Ms. Pirjo Koivula, as well as means of empowerment of the special needs in the community through employment, training and job enrollment.
The workshop also included an artistic activity of a short play entitled “I Have Feelings, Too”, a beautiful life song and a live show by the Painter Majdi Abu Daghash.
