PTUK Delegates Join International Training under PhDGov Project in Brussels

A delegation from Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK) took part in the international in-person training held within the framework of the Reforming the Governance of PhD Programs at Palestinian Higher Education Institutions (PhDGov) project. The training was hosted by Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Brussels, Belgium, from 19–21 January 2026, with the participation of Palestinian and European partner higher education institutions.

The PTUK delegation included Dr. Samer Arqawi, Dr. Mohammad Mara’beh, Dr. Mohammad Sleimi, Dr. Othman Swafta, Dr. Ayman Nazzal, and Eng. Hassan Daraghmeh. The training brought together wide Palestinian and European participation. On the Palestinian side, participants included PTUK, the Arab American University – Jenin, An-Najah National University, and Al-Quds University. On the European side, participants included RWTH Aachen University (Germany), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), in addition to the host university, Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The training program focused on transferring European expertise in the governance of PhD programs, drawing on the experiences of partner European universities. Key topics included the structure and organization of PhD programs, doctoral school models, the roles and responsibilities of PhD candidates and academic supervisors, evaluation and quality assurance mechanisms, research ethics and academic integrity, technical infrastructure and information systems, and the use of digital tools and artificial intelligence in managing PhD programs to ensure technical readiness and sustainability of research-support systems.

PTUK representatives actively participated in interactive discussion sessions aimed at developing university-specific action plans. These plans seek to transfer and apply the acquired knowledge in the development of PhD policies and programs at PTUK, in line with the context of Palestinian higher education and national quality and accreditation requirements.

This participation reflects PTUK’s strategic vision to enhance its international academic engagement and expand partnerships with European universities and research institutions, contributing to the improvement of higher education quality and the advancement of graduate studies and scientific research at the University.
