PTUK Documentation Centre Joins International Council on Archives

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie announced that Kadoorie University Documentation Centre has been admitted to membership in the Arab Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives, becoming the first Palestinian university-based research centre to attain this specialized affiliation in the field of archives and records management. This milestone reflects the university’s advancing institutional capacity in documentation and strengthens its professional presence within Arab and international frameworks.

The membership represents a strategic step that enhances the Centre’s international standing and opens new avenues for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and participation in specialized programs and conferences related to records management and the preservation of archival heritage, in accordance with internationally recognized standards.

University President, Prof. Hussein Shanak described the achievement as a pivotal milestone for the University, noting that the Centre’s admission constitutes a national and academic accomplishment that underscores sustained institutional efforts to develop documentation practices and reinforces the University’s role in safeguarding the national memory and supporting scholarly research. He also expressed appreciation to the Palestinian National Library for its supportive role in advancing the archives and documentation sector and for fostering partnerships that elevate Palestinian academic institutions.

For his part, the Director of the Kadoorie University Documentation Centre, Dr. Abdullah Mahmoud, stated that the membership represents professional recognition of the Centre’s work and provides a platform to further develop policies and tools in line with international best practices. He added that the coming phase will focus on expanding cooperation and networking to serve Palestinian documentary heritage and to strengthen the University’s role as a custodian of the national memory.
