Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK) held a knowledge transfer workshop on the PhDGov (PhD Governance) project via Zoom, with the participation of Project Coordinator Prof. Yousef Daghmeh, Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Samer Arqawi, Head of Humanities Dr. Musab Abboushi, Head of Natural Sciences Dr. Bassam Al-Qadi, Head of Applied Mathematics Dr. Mohammad Mraabeh, and Head of Computerized Financial and Banking Sciences Dr. Othman Sawafteh.
The workshop opened with a presentation by Dr. Arqawi titled “Overview of the PhDGov Project,” highlighting that the project is funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ program. It is implemented in partnership with three European universities—Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Belgium, RWTH Aachen University in Germany, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden—alongside Palestinian partners including PTUK, the Arab American University, An-Najah National University, Al-Quds University, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The project aims to enhance the governance and management of doctoral programs in Palestinian universities by leveraging European expertise and aligning doctoral education with international standards.
Dr. Mraabeh delivered two presentations titled “Training Visit to Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)” and “Training Visit to RWTH Aachen University,” in which he outlined best practices in doctoral program management, particularly in student admission processes, academic supervision, training structures, and monitoring research progress.
In a subsequent presentation, Dr. Arqawi introduced “PTUK Recommendations Plan,” proposing key measures including the establishment of a University Doctoral Council, the development of supervision frameworks, and the adoption of a comprehensive academic portfolio to track doctoral candidates’ progress—drawing on insights gained from training visits to partner universities.
The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion session, where participants provided constructive feedback and insights, contributing to the enrichment of dialogue and the strengthening of workshop outcomes.
