PTUK Tulkarem Police Discuss Seminar on Drugs Dangers

The Psychological Counselling Department at Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie in corporation of Tulkarem Police and Al Naser Association for Youth Development held a seminar to discuss the dangers of drugs in participation of the Palestinian psychologist Dr. Eyad Othoman, the Lecturer in the Medicine College at An-Najah University, Dr. Basma Damiri, First Lieutenant, Eyad Matar from the Drug Enforcement Administration(DEA).
The Psychological Specialist at PTUK, Thafer Hasouna explained that the seminar aimed at raising the students’ awareness of the consequent dangers of the drugs abuse and drug dependence including psychological, social and economic effects on the Palestinian community and at maintaining public safety and preserving civil peace.
Dr. Damiri shed light on the connection of drugs with security and politics giving out a brief introduction about the drug’s use in wars and the espionage purposes, explaining the Israeli occupation policy using this kind of strategy against the Palestinian youth.
She also reviewed her three conducted studies on different groups of Tulkarem society which included the child street vendors, 10th Grade students and university students.
The studies epitomize the causes of illicit drug uses in Palestine indicating that smoking and school escaping as well as working inside the Green Line are the main gates for the drugs’ takers who are recorded at a starting average age of twelve years old.
