PTUK Youth Conference: Focusing on Citizenship Values

“Role of Extracurricular Activities in Enhancing Good Citizenship among the Palestinian Universities’ Students” was the key topic of the First Palestinian University Youth Conference, which was organized by the Students Affairs taking place at Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie under the Patronage of the Higher Council for Youth and Sports.
More than 180 students from different Palestinian universities joined each other’s in the event, camped inside the university, introduced themselves, and did multiple extracurricular activities aiming at one sense of purpose: Young Leaders of Palestine.
Parallel sessions, discussions and open dialogues focused mainly on the youth engagement in the community instilling great values based on good citizenship and sense of freedom with the purpose of ending occupation and building the State of Palestine.
Attended the conference were official renowned seniors including Tulkarem Governor, Isam Abu Baker, the President of Youth Council, Jebreel Rujoub, PTUK President, Prof. Nour Aburrub, the Ministry of Education Attorney, Dr. Basri Saleh, Legislative Council members, Fatah Secretaries, Deans, students and official representatives.
After the launching ceremony had taken place, Abu Baker inaugurated the event, expressing the President of the State of Palestine’s greetings to the audience, and focusing on university youth activities that aim at developing their capabilities and fostering their pioneering role to build good corporate citizenship.
The University President, Prof. Aburrub, shed light on the entrepreneurial role of youth building states and sustaining development in all walks of life, thanking the conference organizers for the great success, and stressing the University’s adoption of social responsibility and citizenship enhancement to qualify young wise leaders who could drive the Palestinian community to sustainable development.
Dr. Saleh described the conference as a “quality addition” to bringing together active groups of students from as many Palestinian universities as possible to be an active part of future making policies; an opportunity has been offered to youth to initiate dialogues with practical outcomes that raise their awareness and engagement in the community.
For his part, Maj. Gen. Rajoub valued the efforts of the conference's organizers, calling for more a series of complementary, open ad attracting conferences that draw up clear policies for the students, serving as a compass to sincere thought and awareness, and a model for a society capable of occupation resistance.
He also touched upon voluntary work and belonging values which give rise to one clear thought and policy.
