National Campaign for Early Detection of Breast Cancer: Kadoorie Organizes Medical Open Day

In conjunction with the national campaign for the early detection of breast cancer, Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie in cooperation with Tulkarem Directorate of Health has organized events for the Medical Open Day, which coincides yearly October, in aim of raising the women awareness to the importance of early detection of the disease.
The event aimed at disseminating the culture of early detection of diseases particularly breast cancer as well as incubating national events that foster strong partnerships with the local institutions for the service of the students and the local community.
The University Physician, Dr. Abdullah Al Fahel pointed out that the free medical checkups were provided to the students and the university staff by specialists in ear, nose, throat, nutrition, mental health, nursing, teeth and skin.
In this context, PTUK Students’ Council held an awareness seminar on breast cancer disease and early detection, administered by the Director of Health Affairs at Tulkarem Directorate of Health, Dr. Nariman Shadeed, the Head of Health Education Department, Dr. Ola Wazani, the Head ofPTUK’s Guidance and Supervision Department, Najah Olwan, the Council’s members, students and University female staff.
Dr. Shadeed introduced to the audience about the concept of breast cancer, the most prominent symptoms and factors leading to infection, and methods of examination and treatment, stressing thereby the importance of early detection in increasing the treatment rate of the disease.
The seminar also featured a vivid example of women who survived the disease and naturally have been cured: Ms. Jahan Touba, who talked about her story with breast cancer from the early detection of the disease to the cure, encouraged women to seek for health centers and not succumb to thedisease.
