Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie PTUK and the Palestinian National Library signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU today, Monday, at the library’s headquarters in Ramallah.
The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in the areas of archiving, scientific research, and cultural and media activities, contributing to the preservation of national memory and the promotion of the Palestinian narrative.
PTUK President Prof. Hussein Shanak emphasized that this MoU aligns with the university’s mission to serve society and advance scientific research. He explained that deepening cooperation with the Palestinian National Library will contribute to the development and digitization of PTUK’s archive related to national memory and link it to the national digital platform.
“It will also enable the university to establish a restoration laboratory on campus, further develop its library, and electronically archive its master’s and doctoral theses,” he said.
Prof. Shanak added that the university, through this cooperation, will prepare joint academic, cultural, and media programs and activities, as well as produce audiovisual materials that document projects and initiatives related to Palestinian memory—thus supporting the educational process and benefiting future generations.
For his part, the President of the Palestinian National Library, Prof. Marwan Awartani, stressed that this MoU comes as part of the library’s national role in collecting, preserving, and documenting the Palestinian archive.
He highlighted the importance of developing joint research projects with PTUK in the fields of cultural heritage, copyright, and memory preservation, in addition to organizing specialized training workshops in archiving to build national capacities.
Prof. Awartani added that this partnership with PTUK serves as a model of institutional synergy between national and official bodies to safeguard Palestinian identity and reinforce the national narrative in the face of challenges.
