Palestine Technical University–Kadoorie (PTUK) launched the Qabas Initiative, a new entrepreneurship program designed to empower students, nurture innovation, and strengthen their connection to the labor market.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, PTUK President Prof. Hussein Shanak described the initiative as a natural extension of the University's strategic vision to promote creativity, innovation, and practice-oriented education. He emphasized PTUK's commitment to integrating academic learning with entrepreneurship and ensuring that graduates are equipped with the skills demanded by today's workforce.
Prof. Shanak noted that hosting the initiative on campus will establish an integrated hub for entrepreneurial ideas and student-led projects by providing academic, technical, and logistical support.
He also highlighted PTUK's distinctive academic model as the only Palestinian university offering specialized professional diploma programs alongside bachelor's degrees, reinforcing its commitment to producing highly skilled, career-ready graduates.
The launch ceremony was attended by representatives of the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel), the Women's Affairs Technical Committee, student representatives, academics, and partner institutions.
Representing Enabel, Hani Al-Deek stressed that investing in young people is essential for sustainable development, describing Qabas as a platform that strengthens students' entrepreneurial skills and bridges the gap between higher education and the labor market.
Taghreed Naser, representing the Women's Affairs Technical Committee, underscored the importance of empowering women through entrepreneurship and innovation, while Mohammad Ayasi, Executive Director of the Qabas Initiative, outlined the program's vision of supporting entrepreneurial ideas through mentorship, specialized training, networking opportunities, an online platform for student projects, and connections with funding organizations.
The event also featured a presentation introducing the initiative's objectives and implementation framework, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from the public and private sectors on fostering entrepreneurship among university students.
Participants shared success stories and explored strategies for transforming innovative ideas into sustainable, market-driven ventures that contribute to local economic development.
