PTUK’s Strong Belief in Women’s Roles in Palestinian Legislation

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie organized a dialogue seminar on women’s roles in the Palestinian legislation under the title “women in Palestinian legislation: reality and challenges,” in presence of Tulkarem Governor, Isam Abu Baker, the Minister of Women’s Affairs, experts, and official representatives from local and civil communities.
The seminar was aimed at discussing the actual status of the Palestinian women and their roles in the Palestinian legislation among challenging realities.
Several crucial recommendations were introduced by the participants, including most of which are:
1. The necessity to referring to the Palestinian legislations concerning women apart from other outsider laws of other countries,
2. Raising the community awareness about women’s rights legislated by the Islamic religion,
3. Involving women with disabilities in all different community activities as well as increasing their representation in the society,
4. Supporting women’s political participation by the community to enhance their resilience and decision-making engagement.
The minister, Ms. Amal Hamad appreciated the organizer’s efforts for the seminar, explaining that it is one of the community priorities as women are integral part of development and struggle of the State of Palestine.
She pointed out that the Palestinian case is a unique and complicated one which requires enacting a Palestinian law that is adaptable with the Palestinian status quo and special conditions and with reference to the Palestinian national culture, religion and community.
