PTUK Participates in the International Summer School on Generative Artificial Intelligence in Italy

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK) participated in the International Summer School on Generative Artificial Intelligence, hosted by Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, from June 22–26, 2026.

The event brought together a distinguished group of researchers, academics, and international experts in the field of artificial intelligence.

The summer school explored advanced topics in Generative AI, including Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision-Language Models (VLMs), and Agentic AI. The program featured specialized lectures, hands-on sessions, and collaborative research activities designed to foster knowledge exchange and innovation in emerging AI technologies.

PTUK made a notable academic contribution through two key participations. Dr. Hadi Khalilieh, Head of the Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, served as a member of the Summer School’s Organizing Committee, contributing to the scientific planning and coordination of this international academic event.

In addition, Dr. Osama Hamed, a faculty member in the Department of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, delivered a specialized hands-on session entitled: “Hands-on Session 4: Small and Locally Deployed VLMs Under Evaluation: A Case Study of Image Captioning.” The session highlighted recent practical approaches to evaluating compact, locally deployable Vision-Language Models and their applications in automated image captioning.

This participation reflects PTUK’s growing academic standing and its commitment to strengthening its presence in international scholarly forums. It also underscores the University's efforts to expand research collaboration with leading global institutions and to facilitate the transfer of advanced knowledge and emerging technologies to the Palestinian academic community.
