PTUK Receives Deputy of the Irish Representative

The President of Palestine Technical University- Kadoorie, Prof. Marwan Awartani received the Deputy Representative of the Irish Representative in Palestine, Mr. Declan Johnston to discuss prospects of mutual cooperation.
Prof. Awartani welcomed Johnston and the accompanying delegation from the World Council of Churches and gave a historical background about the university. Awartani also pointed to the challenges that the university faces in terms of scientific research and internationalization as a result of the restrictions imposed on student and staff mobility. These obstacles are the further augmented for Kadoorie students and staff because of the university's location near the apartheid wall and the military training base perching inside the campus.
For his part, Mr. Johnston referred to Ireland’s role of in supporting the two-state solution and helping finding a just solution for the Palestinian cause.
The two sides also discussed means of developing joint cooperation in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation, especially since Ireland has presented a successful pioneering model in those fields. Cultural and academic exchange programs between the two sides were also discussed.
At the end of the visit, the delegation went in a tour to explore the university facilities and the Israeli violations against the university and its campus.
