PTUK and MOEHE Organize Palestinian Math Olympiad 2018

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie in corporation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education organized a ceremony to celebrate and honor the 11 students who won Olympiad 2017 and hosted the final stage of Olympiad 2018 examination with the participation of 183 11th scientific-stream students from different north directorates of education.
Attended the celebration were the PTUK’s President Assistant Dr. Dirar Elyyan, the Ministry of Education Deputy, Dr. Basri Saleh, the Palestine Ambassador in Qatar Munir Ghanam, Tulkarem Governorate Representative Khalid Al Zaghal, the Director of Tulkarem Education Islam Al Taher, the University Vice and Assistant Presidents, the University academic and administrative staff as well as math supervisors and school headmasters and mistresses in the north directorates.
The Olympiad Coordinator, Mahmoud Kmeil, presented a systematic structure that the Olympiad followed in the fields of math sciences and topics including numbers, engineering, algebra, statistics and probability, in addition to the presentation of analytical reading to the results of Olympiad 2017 highlighting the students’ levels and their performance in Mathematics.
Kmeil pointed out that the target students in early stages exceeded more than 10,000 students where 180 students stepped on the next final stage from different directorates of education, explaining that the testing in the final stage is different from the early ones.
Khalid Al Zaghal commended PTUK’s hosting to the different systematic and nonsystematic activities in the nation particularly the hosting of the Palestinian Math Olympiad, giving an entire rise to the qualification of its students who will be able to make fine progress for their country.
He also praised the female participation in the competition who won advanced levels, considering it a fine reflection to the increasing participation of the Palestinian woman in different sectors.
Dr. Elyyan delivered a speech, representing the University President Prof Marwan Awartani, in which he expressed the university’s readiness to support and host the Math Olympiad on a regular basis, considering Mathematics a corner stone to the development and progress of the digital world.
He explained that Olympiad 2018 is being prepared in a Palestinian systematic edition as a first stage to the pathway of joining the international Olympiad, adding that the preparation of the next one will also include 10th Grade students to be well trained and to raise the level of readiness in order to cope with the Olympiad according to the international standards in case of Palestine’s participation might have been accepted in the next years.
For his part, Dr. Basri Saleh thanked the organizers of the yearly event praising the true partnership between PTUK and the Ministry of Education that constantly keep a keen eye at the distinguished students in math to put them on the right direction.
