PTUK president Prof. Marwan Awartani participates in a symposium on universities governance


On Tuesday , asymposium on universities governance was held at Middle East University- Jordan. This event was organized by the Council of Arab Universities Governance which has emerged from the Association of Arab Universities.
In this context , the Secretary General of the Council of Arab Universities Governance, Dr. Yaqoup Nasir Al-Deen said that “Arab universities no longer have a choice but to keep up with the progress that has been made at the international level in the field of governance “
During his presentation entitled “Reforming the Governance of Governmental Universities in Palestine”,Prof. Awartani said that " Kadoorie University is fully aware of the vital role of building good governance as it would strengthen the university’s institutional structure and improve the quality of educational output thus achieving justice, and equal opportunities for all“ . Prof. Awartani also emphasized on the importance of governance in the development of the administrative and the academic systems alike.
In this context ,Prof. Awartani added that Kadoorie has taken important steps towards the implementation of the main tenets of governance ; the most prominent of these is the legislative reform of the university’s legal terms of reference .He also highlighted the tremendous challenges facing not only Kadoorie,but all Palestinian universities, particularly with respect to the continuous obstacles set by the Israeli ooccupation.
At the end of the seminar , the participating experts recommended laying out detailed measurable criteria and mechanisms of action for the application of governance in Arab higher education institutions. This in turn would lead to the objective and unbiased selection of faculty ,academic freedom, and the activation of both the faculty and students' rights of transparency, fair treatment, and accountability.
