PTUK and Barcelona Universities Inaugurate Hydroponic Farm Project

Palestine Technical University Kadoorie, in partnership with the University of Barcelona and the Federation of Palestinian Farmers' Associations, inaugurated the Hydroponic Farm that is funded by the Spanish project on PTUK’s lands.
PTUK’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Motamed Al-Khatib, received a delegation from the University of Barcelona, headed by the Director of the Solidarity Foundation of the University of Barcelona, Chap Lopez, and accompanied by a delegation from the Union of Palestinian Farmers' Associations, headed by the President of the Union, Mr. Raafat Khandakji, to discuss expansion of joint cooperation for more future projects.
The meeting was attended by the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Shweikeh, the President's Assistants, the Dean of the College of Agricultural Science and Technology, Dr. Wafaa Masoud, the Coordinator of the Hydroponic Farm, Dr. Basil Al-Natsheh, the University Employees Syndicate, the relevant university staff, and the Student Union Council.
Dr. Al-Khatib thanked the guest delegation for their visit, which demonstrates deep partnership between the two institutions, stressing that the university opens its doors to local and international partnerships, and indicating that Kadoorie University intends to expand the partnership after successful implementation of the new projects that reflect positively on the research and academic process.
For his part, Xabi Lopez affirmed on the successful experience between Barcelona and Kadoorie universities, explaining that the visit is to strengthen the existing relationship within a future vision that includes many partner universities around the world, in addition to specialized partner institutions.
He explained that the partnership with the University of Kadoorie and the Union of Palestinian Farmers' Associations has a special place due to the specificity of the Palestinian situation, so the University of Barcelona pays special attention to everything that contributes to supporting Palestinians and advancing local development.
In turn, the Dean of Agriculture, Dr. Wafa Masoud, indicated that the hydroponic farm will be an experimental farm for innovation and sustainability as this farm contains three modern water systems and was established to serve the agricultural sector in Palestine in an innovative way.
She also pointed out that the establishment of this farm at Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie has many goals including training students studying Agricultural Sciences and Technologies on hydroponics in an innovative way to establish their own projects after graduation.
