PTUK Joins Mediterranean Climate Change Observatory Conferecnce

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, represented by Dr. Wafa Masoud and Dr. Basel Al-Natsheh from the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Technology, concluded its participation in the inaugural conference of the Mediterranean Climate Change Observatory.

The event was hosted by the University of Carthage in Tunisia and organized in collaboration with the University of Barcelona, the Municipality of Barcelona, the Catalan Peace Foundation, and the Union of Palestinian Farmers, with the attendance of the Ambassadors of Palestine and Spain in Tunisia.

Dr. Wafa Masoud chaired one of the conference sessions titled “Climate Adaptation and Sustainable Agriculture,” while Dr. Basel Al-Natsheh presented a paper on innovative strategies for water reuse in agriculture.

Dr. Masoud emphasized that the university’s participation aligns with its policy of fostering openness, networking, and knowledge exchange. She highlighted that the inaugural conference brought together institutions of higher education, research organizations, NGOs, and public administrations to address climate change challenges in the Mediterranean region.

Key themes included water management and conservation, food security, and nature-based solutions as critical strategies to tackle the Mediterranean climate crisis.
The conference concluded with the formation of working groups comprising higher education institutions, research centers, and civil society organizations to develop and implement strategies for climate change resilience in the Mediterranean region.
