    PTUK and Rased Palestine Sign MoU to Promote Integrity and Civic Participation

    Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, represented by its President Prof. Hussein Shanak, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Madarat Center for Community Development – Nablus, in its capacity as coordinator of the Rased Palestine Coalition. The agreement was signed by Eng. Riyad Khunfar, Director General of the Center, as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships with civil society organizations and advance community-based initiatives focused on democratic integrity and public participation.

    The MoU is grounded in a shared vision to promote democratic practices and expand civic engagement spaces through active participation in the Rased Palestine Coalition, a national framework dedicated to strengthening community action and reinforcing the values of citizenship and accountability.

    Prof. Shanak emphasized the importance of this partnership in expanding collaboration with civil society institutions, enhancing the University’s role in community service, and supporting its efforts to engage students in extracurricular activities with national and democratic dimensions. He noted that the University is committed to building high-impact partnerships that contribute to developing students’ capacities and shaping their personal and professional growth.

    He further highlighted that student engagement in such initiatives strengthens civic awareness and provides practical opportunities to participate in public affairs, underscoring the University’s focus on integrating academic learning with real-world application.

    Prof. Shanak also stressed that partnerships with civil society, the private sector, and public institutions are fundamental to achieving sustainable development, as they enable complementarity in roles and the exchange of expertise and resources. He added that empowering youth and women remains a strategic priority for the University, recognizing their central role in driving development, in alignment with global trends and the Sustainable Development Goals.

    For his part, Eng. Riyad Khunfar welcomed the signing of the MoU, describing it as an important step toward expanding collaboration with academic institutions to strengthen and advance community work. He noted that the Rased Palestine Coalition has been working since its establishment to promote citizenship values and enhance public participation—particularly among youth—through field-based and participatory initiatives aimed at strengthening community oversight and democratic integrity.

    Khunfar added that collaboration with PTUK represents a qualitative addition to the coalition’s efforts, given the University’s academic expertise and dynamic student body, which are expected to contribute significantly to achieving the coalition’s objectives and expanding its national impact.

    The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmad Shwaikeh, Assistant President for Planning and Development; Dr. Raed Al-Qarout, Dean of Development and Community Service; along with several representatives from the University and the coalition.
