PTUK and QOU Organize Study Day on Palestine Cinema Production

The Center of Competence in Media and Filmmaking at Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie / Ramallah in corporation with the Faculty of Media at Al Quds Open University – Ramallah Branch organized a study day about the status of cinema and visual production in Palestine within an academic background vision to explore the historical development of the Palestinian cinema production.
The participants focused on the basics of cinema criticism and individual experiences in the cinema production and direction.
The Center’s Director, Niaz Deifallah pointed out that several future activities will follow up including the possibility of organizing an annual conference on filmmaking and means of development in Palestine.
He also explored the different stages of cinema production starting with the idea to the drafting and final production and contribution, pointing to the needs of filmmaking including the necessary equipment, directors, producers, team work, actors, photographers and professional technicians.
The researcher, Omar Zain, presented a study on the history of Palestine cinema which he had previously conducted to obtain a Master degree from the University of Cordoba, Spain.
The film critique and cultural specialist and adviser to the Minister of Culture, Youssef Al-Shayeb reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Culture, despite the modest budget of the ministry, that involve the private sector in supporting cultural production projects.
Al-Shayeb also spoke about the difference between journalism and criticism, as well as the overall approach that combines the two methods.
