Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie recently concluded its participation in the fifth administrative meeting of the ICT4EDU project, aimed at enhancing ICT competencies in higher education institutions in the Middle East and North Africa MENA region. The meeting, funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ program, took place at the University of Padua in Italy from February 19 to 21, 2025.
The university was represented by Dr. Mahmoud Jazar, the project manager from the Faculty of Information Technology, and Dr. Jafar Abu Sa’a from the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences. Other participating Palestinian institutions included Palestine Technical University – Deir Al-Balah and Al-Istiqlal University.
The project also featured contributions from Jordanian universities University of Jordan, Mutah University, and Irbid National University and Egyptian universities Al-Azhar University, Suez Canal University, and Heliopolis University. On the European side, the consortium included universities from Portugal University of Porto, Cyprus Frederick University, Romania University of Bucharest, and Italy University of Padua.
Dr. Mahmoud Jazar explained that the meeting reviewed the overall progress of the project and discussed the implementation of curricula for selected educational courses. Participants delivered presentations on the application of plans and curricula prepared by the participating universities and outlined mechanisms for selecting students to participate in training programs at European universities.
The discussions emphasized preparing students for training at European institutions, focusing on the latest trends in using ICT for active learning. Topics included gamification strategies in education, integrating virtual and augmented reality technologies, and applying artificial intelligence AI. The attendees also examined AI’s impact on personalized learning and ways to incorporate ICT into the educational process, particularly in early childhood education.
This involved replacing traditional methods with modern educational tools and training teachers to meet the needs of students in the digital era, including those with special educational needs.
Dr. Jazar added that the project aims to provide training and development opportunities for academics and students in Middle Eastern universities by fostering knowledge exchange with European partners. Plans were established to select students from Kadoorie and other Middle Eastern universities to participate in training programs at the University of Padua in Italy, Frederick University in Cyprus, and other renowned European universities.
The participation of Kadoorie University in this project underscores its commitment to strengthening partnerships with European institutions and advancing the educational and technological competencies of its academic staff and students. This effort solidifies the university's position as a leading institution in academic innovation on an international level.
