Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie held an awareness workshop aiming at a vocational program in the field of solar energy, which the first of its kind in Palestine, within the framework of vocational and technical training support program that is implemented by the German Development Agency GIZ and funded by the European Union.
The Workshop Coordinator, Omar Safarini opened the meeting pointing to the significance of solar energy in Palestine due to the energy resources scarcity and high prices and to obtain clean, reliable energy in the area.
The Technical Committee Coordinator of the EU Support Project, Maisoun Zreiqi gave a brief about the program and its importance which aims to acquaint the graduates with skills that increase their chances getting engaged in the labor market or create their own business projects.
She added that the solar energy project will fill the energy gap in Tulkarem city and find new alternatives to fix the electricity repeated cuts off, in addition; it discovers new horizons for the students that meet the labor market needs and create business projects that sustain positive outcome.
The lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at PTUK Dr. Mahmoud Ismaeel delivered a detailed introduction about the training program which will be held on a basis of 700 actual hours – theoretical and practical –supervised by renowned experts. He explained that the first phase of the project will use the university’s halls and labs furnished with special equipment.
