PTUK Concludes Olive Conference with Crucial Recommendations


Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie concluded on Tuesday the events of the Fifth International Conference on Olive in Palestine, which lasted for two days and included specialized scientific sessions, and ended up with fruitful recommendations as well as honoring ceremonies for the scientific and steering committees. During the conference, several topics were discussed including production and protection, product manufacturing technology and olive waste management, product marketing and quality, and complementarity of roles for better performance of the olive sector. The conference also aimed at shedding light on the olive tree and its products, bringing in researchers, farmers, and all workers in the olive industry to exchange scientific and crop research results, foster all efforts to develop and improve the production, distribute the agricultural experience results to be presented for a maximum number of interested groups, in addition to encouraging dialogue and networking between scholars, specialists, and decision makers to specify the future needs, draw effective policies, and contribute in decision making. It was also a unique opportunity for businesspersons, investors, and the governmental and non-governmental bodies to support developmental projects at the local, national and Arab levels. Olive Exhibition Thirty active organizations and societies in the field of agriculture and olive industry participated in the olive conference exhibition, which was funded by the Palestinian Center for Agricultural Research and Development. Several products were exhibited including olive trees, handmade products and crafts, modern agricultural equipment, and home-made food products, giving the chance for the business starters to introduce their new own productions. Recommendations The conference’s participants necessitated applied research in agriculture with respect to olives, climate change, and olive pressers. They also called for creating olive studies center administered by competent bodies like ministries and universities, and for conducting studies on developing automatic cultivation of olives and on cutting back costs of production and protection
