PTUK Organizes Workshop on Modern Agricultural and Renewable Energy


The Faculty of Agricultural Science and Technology at Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, in partnership with Agricultural Relief and in collaboration with the Student Union Council and the Student Youth Movement, organized a workshop titled Modern Technologies in Agriculture and Renewable Energy. The event, held as part of the Environmental and Climate Justice project funded by the Swedish agency We Effect, aimed to highlight innovative solutions in the agricultural sector and emphasize renewable energy as a component of environmental and climate justice initiatives. The workshop was opened by Prof. Nawaf Abu Khalaf, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Technology. He noted that the event aligns with the university's efforts to promote awareness of innovation and sustainability in agriculture and its role in achieving sustainable development. Prof. Abu Khalaf highlighted the strong ties between the faculty and the local community, particularly with Agricultural Relief, through numerous projects that foster creativity and innovation. He also addressed the impact of climate change on natural resources and emphasized the need for collective efforts to confront these challenges. Dr. Ahed Zanabit, Director of Agricultural Relief in Tulkarm, expressed pride in the partnership with Kadoorie University, describing it as a distinguished educational institution, especially in the agricultural field. He stressed that the agricultural sector in Palestine requires greater support to bolster the resilience of Palestinian farmers who face aggressive Israeli policies aimed at displacing them and seizing their lands under pretexts. Dr. Zanabit encouraged students to take advantage of joint events between Agricultural Relief and the university to stay updated on advancements in the agricultural sector and thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event. Student representative Maisam Kittaneh, speaking on behalf of the Student Union Council and the Student Youth Movement, noted that the workshop comes at a critical environmental and agricultural juncture. She emphasized the importance of such events in spreading awareness about modern agricultural practices, exchanging expertise, and providing a platform for experts to explore students’ ideas and innovations. She praised the university’s efforts in fostering a creative and innovative educational environment. The workshop featured several lectures. Prof. Mahmoud Raheel presented on Modern Irrigation Technologies, while Engineer Ali Odeh from Al-Tayseer Company delivered a talk on Renewable Energy Technologies, focusing on innovations in this field. Additionally, Engineer Mahmoud Abu Hamdan discussed Agricultural Relief’s achievements in Tulkarm Governorate.
