Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie team has earned the Best Community Service Impact Sustainability award at the 2024 Global English Language Olympiad for Universities.
The event, held in Jordan from December 5-7, 2024 under the theme “National Heritage”, featured the participation of 57 teams representing 24 higher education institutions.
During a reception held to honor the winning team, University President Prof. Hussein Shanak congratulated them on their achievement, emphasizing that this success enriches the university's record of both local and international accomplishments.
Prof. Shanak expressed his pride in this milestone, which reflects the university’s vision to prepare outstanding leaders across various fields and disciplines.
He also extended his gratitude to the supervisors for their diligent training and support that contributed to this remarkable result. Prof. Shanak commended the students for their exemplary representation of their university and country, wishing them continued academic and professional success.
Dr. Mutasim Al-Khatib, the university’s Academic Vice President, highlighted the institution's commitment to engaging in both regional and international competitions, stating that the university leverages its resources to support students, overcome challenges, and create opportunities for exceptional participation. This, he explained, aligns with the university’s open and inclusive policy aimed at empowering its students.
Dr. Nadia Hamad, the team supervisor, noted that the PTUK team demonstrated exceptional competence, fully deserving the award, emphasizing the importance of participating in such international events, and describing the Olympiad as a prestigious initiative organized by the Ministry of Higher Education in collaboration with Masa International Testing Services.
The competition comprised five key categories: theatrical performance, project presentation, English language proficiency test, community service, and teamwork.
Dr. Hamad also underscored the pivotal role of the 90-member judging panel, which included representatives from distinguished organizations such as the Queen Rania Academy, the British Council, AMIDEAST, Jordanian universities, and the United States Agency for International Development USAID.
The Phoenix team, which secured this notable recognition, consisted of five students: Diyaa Al-Said and Sajida Mehr from the Faculty of Arts, Suzan Jarrad and Islam Mashaal from the Faculty of Engineering, and Rand Al-Assad from the Faculty of Sciences. The team was supervised by Dr. Nadia Hamad and Mr. Montaser Odeh from the Department of English in the Faculty of Arts.
