PTUK Hosts Awareness Session on Occupational Safety and Women’s Rights


Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie PTUK in Tulkarm hosted a series of awareness sessions organized by the Center for Democracy and Workers’ Rights, targeting the university’s graduates from various disciplines. The first session, titled “Occupational Health and Safety in the Workplace,” was held as part of the project Promoting Workers’ Rights in Occupational Health and Safety. It focused on introducing participants to the concept of workplace safety and the importance of maintaining a secure working environment, in addition to reviewing the rights and obligations guaranteed under the Palestinian Labor Law. The second session was conducted within the framework of the project Contributing to Gender Justice and Women’s Human Rights in the Middle East and addressed the topic “Combating Violence and Discrimination in the World of Work.” The discussion highlighted International Labour Organization Convention No. 190 and emphasized the need for institutional policies that ensure a work environment free from violence and discrimination. Attending the sessions from PTUK were Mr. Wajdi Al-Jallad, Head of the Alumni Affairs Department, and Ms. Ataa Salem, Workshop Coordinator from the Student Affairs Unit. The sessions were facilitated by Ms. Howaida Jaafar from the Legal Unit and Ms. Amina Al-Omari from the Training and Culture Unit at the Center, with funding provided by the German Catholic Central Agency for Development Cooperation MISEREOR and the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation. The sessions concluded by emphasizing the importance of employers’ commitment to providing a safe work environment and employees’ adherence to occupational safety procedures, while also calling for increased awareness activities and the use of media and social platforms to promote labor and human rights culture on a wider scale.
