PTUK and Bozoor Association Explore Cooperation in Environmental Technology and Artificial Intelligence


Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie welcomed a delegation from Bozoor for Development and Culture, the implementing organization of the AirAware project, as part of the university’s efforts to strengthen partnerships with community institutions and explore prospects for future cooperation in the fields of environmental technology and artificial intelligence.

The meeting was attended by the University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Moatamad Al-Khatib, and the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Prof. Rizq Astaitiyeh, in addition to several deans and heads of departments from the faculties of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, and Agriculture. The association’s delegation included Eng. Tawfiq Saleh, Project Coordinator, and Eng. Mohammad Shrayem, Technical Development and Affairs Coordinator.

During the meeting, the delegation delivered a presentation on the AirAware project, outlining its objectives of utilizing artificial intelligence technologies and data analysis tools to monitor air quality and analyze pollution indicators, in a way that supports decision-makers and enhances responses to environmental and health challenges.

Dr. Moatamad Al-Khatib emphasized the importance of such applied projects that combine technology with community needs, noting the university’s commitment to engaging with innovative initiatives that strengthen the role of scientific research and innovation in serving Palestinian society.

Al-Khatib stated that Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie places increasing emphasis on projects that employ modern technology and artificial intelligence to address environmental and developmental issues, while seeking to establish effective partnerships that contribute to developing innovative and sustainable solutions.

He added that the meeting falls within the university’s efforts to learn more about the project and hear the perspectives of specialized academic staff, helping evaluate opportunities for cooperation and establish partnerships based on scientific and practical foundations.

For his part, Eng. Tawfiq Saleh presented the project’s vision and objectives, stressing the importance of cooperation with Palestinian academic institutions in developing environmental initiatives based on knowledge and technology.

He explained that the AirAware project aims to establish a community-based air quality monitoring network in Palestine through the use of modern tools and technologies that provide accurate data to support environmental awareness and informed decision-making.

The project is supported by the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with several relevant national institutions, as part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and address challenges related to pollution and air quality in Palestine.
