Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK) has achieved a distinguished scientific accomplishment, as four students from the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences received awards for the best research presentations at a specialized international training workshop on implementation research. The workshop was hosted in the Tunisian city of Hammamet in November 2026, with participation from students and researchers from Arab countries bordering the Mediterranean. The students were accompanied by academic supervisors Dr. Kamel Jibreen and Dr. Omar Al-Shamsti.
The students took part in the international workshop titled "Advancing Implementation Research Capacity to Strengthen Health and Community Systems," organized by the Institut Pasteur de Tunis with support from the World Health Organization's Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR). The workshop aimed to develop research capacity and promote the use of scientific evidence to improve health systems and services.
Students Bisan Salameh, Salma Abu Aqel, Asma Qalalweh, and Tala Taha, working in two research groups, presented two scientific projects addressing women's health promotion, cancer prevention and early detection, and the development of evidence-based health interventions. Their work reflects the application of academic knowledge to health issues of high societal priority.
University President Prof. Hussein Shanak commended the achievement, affirming that it reflects the advanced level reached by PTUK students and their ability to compete and excel in international scientific forums. He noted that this distinguished Palestinian presence demonstrates the University's role in preparing scientific and research talent capable of helping address societal and health challenges and offering solutions grounded in knowledge and scientific research.
He added that the University places particular importance on applied research and continually seeks to strengthen the participation of its students and academics in international scientific programs and forums. Such participation, he said, opens broader horizons for knowledge exchange and enhances the University's academic and research standing at the regional and international levels.
For her part, Prof. Rabab Jarrar, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, stated that the achievement reflects the outstanding academic standard of students in the Faculty's programs in medical laboratory sciences, medical imaging, and diagnostic radiology, and their ability to present applied research ideas that help meet health challenges. She stressed the importance of strengthening regional and international academic and research cooperation and of providing more opportunities for Palestinian students to participate and excel in international scientific forums.
Prof. Jarrar expressed her pride in the achievement, emphasizing that the honor awarded to the four students is the fruit of the academic and training efforts the Faculty devotes to developing its students' research and applied skills and strengthening their ability to use scientific knowledge in service of priority health issues.
She added that this excellence reflects the competence of the Faculty's students and their capacity for collaborative research and for producing scientific projects with practical value. She noted the Faculty's commitment to providing a stimulating educational and research environment and to expanding opportunities for participation in international programs, workshops, and conferences, which help refine students' skills and strengthen their scientific presence.
The four students were honored by the workshop organizers in the presence of representatives of the Institut Pasteur de Tunis, the Tunisian Ministry of Health, and the World Health Organization.
